Homegroup is the easiest way of file sharing between Windows 7 systems. We need a homegroup password to join the existing homegroup. We can obtain this password from the creator of homegroup. In this article we will add a new computer in homegroup. For this article we assume that you have acquired homegroup password.

How to add computers in HomeGroup

Click Start button and click Control panel link

Click Choose homegroup and sharing options

Windows will scan the network for existing homegroup. If it found the homegroup, it will provide the Join Homegroup option otherwise it will present Create New Homegroup wizard. In our network we already have a homegroup created on other PC. So we will welcome with Join Homegroup wizard.

Windows will automatically share following folders. If you don't want to share any of these folders, uncheck the box. Selected folders will be visible and accessible to other computers of this Homegroup. Click Next.

Homegroup is a membership based group. We need to obtain a membership password from the creator or other members of the group. This password is also called Homegroup password.

Type the Homegroup password and click Next

Wait for few seconds. If supplied password is correct, windows will do all necessary setting automatically. Click Finish to close the wizard.

To access the shared resources by other members open My Computer and expend the Network option form left pane.

We have successfully joined the homegroup.
