How to Enable sound service for root user in Ubuntu Linux

By default sound service is disabled for root user account in Ubuntu Linux. It means if you are logged in from root user account, you will not receive audio output from any application. This tutorial explains how to solve this issue by enabling sound service for root user account step by step.

Sound service does not start when you logged in from root user.

We need to add sound service in startup application so it starts automatically while you logged in from root.

Sound will mute while you logged in from root.

ubuntu no sound icon root login

To enable sound click on dash home button

ubuntu enable sound dash home

Search for startup application. Click on Startup application icon

ubuntu enable startup application

Click on add button

Fill the following

Name: Audio
Command: pulseaudio --start --log-target=syslog
comment: start audio service

click on close

ubuntu enable add startup program

reboot the system

logged in again from root account and check sound.

ubuntu enable enable sound icon

We have enabled sound service for root account.
